Dear Friends of Berlin Art Week,
You are cordially invited to the fourth Berlin Art Week, which will be held from 15–20 September 2015.
This year’s Berlin Art Week will feature numerous exhibition and event highlights, including abc art berlin contemporary, the cooperation project STADT/BILD, Preis der Nationalgalerie 2015, and exhibitions of works by Cindy Sherman, Alicja Kwade, Bernard Frize, Paul McCarthy, Rudi Meisel and the Archive René Block.
This year once again Berlin Art Week will combine exhibition openings and art prizes, panel discussions and performances, artist talks and guided tours in an attractive programme, featuring insights into private collections and excursions to several of the city’s independent project spaces.
Here’s an overview of the week’s events: Berlin Art Week will kick off on 15 September with a wide range of openings, happenings, parties, and receptions. Four of Berlin’s leading art institutions will celebrate the opening of STADT/BILD (Image of a City), a joint project of Berlinische Galerie, Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (Ich kenne kein Weekend. Archiv und Sammlung René Block) and neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (Redemption Jokes) will also be holding exhibition openings, and Schinkel Pavillon, as a new partner of Berlin Art Week, will be inviting for a reception to honour the Paul McCarthy exhibition.
Private collectors will be holding open houses on Wednesday, 16 September. And on Wednesday evening, prior to abc, all participating Berlin Galleries will be hosting receptions and openings on a abc Gallery Night. The art fairs abc art berlin contemporary and Positions Berlin – Art Fair will open on Thursday, 17 September. On Friday, 18 September, a special focus will be placed on the programmes of 24 project spaces and independent initiatives. The new format “Xchange” by the Project Space Festival Berlin will present 10 project spaces that exchange content and locations during Berlin Art week: five pairs of project spaces engage in a dialogue: Archive Kabinett—Decad, District—Kreuzberg Pavillon, Erratum—Vesselroom Project, General Public—tête, LAGE EGAL—ZÖNOTÉKA. The event of the 14 prizewinning project spaces and initatives in 2015 starts with a paneldiscussion followed by the award ceremony and a party at Bar Babette. The Award winners are: Autocenter, Berlin-Weekly, Bublitz, die raum, G.A.S.-station, Grimmuseum, insitu, Kinderhook & Caracas, Kotti-Shop, Meinblau, rosalux, Rumpsti Pumsti, SCHAU FENSTER and tête.* This year for the first time, Friday and Saturday will feature the discussion format Talking Galleries, with two panel discussions hosted by Chris Dercon and Chus Martínez! There is lot’s to discover!
