Formats vous convie à la troisième édition de sa série d’évènements mensuels: Formats X!
Chaque mois, Formats invite un créateur ou une créatrice à faire une sélection de publications sur un thème lié à sa pratique artistique ou académique. Les livres, magazines, zines et/ou ouvrages auto-publiés choisis par l’invité sont exposés en librairie pendant un mois selon une scénographie créée spécialement pour l’occasion.

The Perfect Nothing Catalog est une collection d’objets et d’idées assemblée par Frank Traynor et provenant d’artistes, de non-artistes, de guérisseurs, de clowns, de mystiques, d’esprits tordus, d’enfants et de la nature. Depuis ses débuts au printemps 2012 dans une cabane abandonnée à Brooklyn, le projet a pris la forme d’installations temporaires au musée MoMA PS1, sous un parachute suspendu à un arbre pendant Art Basel: Miami Beach, au NY Art Book Fair et à The Newsstand, un kiosque à journaux situé dans le métro de New York. The Perfect Nothing Catalog a fait l’objet d’articles dans Time Out New York, NYLON, Daily Candy et Sight Unseen, et a été nommé l’une des 50 raisons d’aimer New York par New York Magazine en décembre 2013.
Pour Formats X The Perfect Nothing Catalog, la première manifestation du projet à l’extérieur des États-Unis, Frank Traynor a sélectionné des ouvrages en français et anglais qui considèrent le post-matérialisme, le post-consumérisme et différents moyens de transcender l’espace-temps. Ces publications reflètent sa vision positive de l’existentialisme – un néant parfait.

Each month, Formats invites a creative to select publications related to his or her artistic or research practice. The books, magazines, zines and/or self-published print projects selected by the guest will be exhibited in the store for a month on a display created especially for the occasion.
On January 16th, join us for the unveiling of Formats X The Perfect Nothing Catalog.
The Perfect Nothing Catalog is a collection of objects and ideas from artists, non-artists, healers, clowns, mystics, weirdoes, little kids and nature curated by Frank Traynor. Started in an abandoned shack in Brooklyn, New York, in the spring of 2012, it has since manifested itself through temporary installations at MoMA PS1, under a parachute hung from a tree outside of Art Basel: Miami Beach, at the NY Art Book Fair, and at The Newsstand in a New York subway station. The Perfect Nothing Catalog has been featured in Time Out New York, NYLON, Daily Candy and Sight Unseen, and was one of New York Magazine’s Reasons to Love New York in 2013.
For Formats X The Perfect Nothing Catalog, the project’s first international foray, Frank Traynor has curated a selection of texts about post-materialism, post-consumerism, methods of transcending space and time, traditional Japanese flower arrangement and other topics concerning nothingness.
