SALOON STORY PART IV – CYNTHIA DINAN-MITCHELL / ATELIER-GALERIE ALAIN PIROIR
Pour ce projet d’exposition, je veux explorer la notion d’ornementation en combinant l’installation, la céramique et l’estampe. Par cette approche multidisciplinaire, je veux ainsi créer une installation où on perçoit la rencontre forcée entre des esthétiques westerns (cowboys), japonaises et victoriennes. Premièrement, j’aimerais présenter une série de sérigraphie encadrée rehausser à la gouache illustrant des vignettes de cowboys et de samouraï. Deuxièment, je veux présenter un papier peint fait en flocage d’un motif imitant la toile de Jouy, mais refaite avec des images de cowboys. Dernièrement, je veux présenter des pièces en céramique ornée de sérigraphie qui répète les mêmes motifs du papier peint. Le tout sera lié par deux couleurs dominantes, soit le rouge et le noir.
By accomplishing this exhibition project, I hope to explore the notion of ornamentation by combining installation, ceramic and printmaking. By using this multidisciplinary approach, I intend to create an installation where various aesthetics meet and force the viewer to confront simultaneously Western, Japanese and Victorian notions. Firstly, I will create a series of silkscreens, framed by gouache vignettes of cowboys and samurais. Secondly, I will create wallpaper imitating the toile de jouy pattern, only with cowboys. Lastly, I will present ceramics decorated with the same patterns as the wallpaper. The whole of the installation brought together by two main colors, red and black.
